Chi O seems to rely too much on existing social circles. If you're from out of state or a smaller Alabama school and don't already know several members, it can feel like your chances are slim. Recruitment should be about finding the best fit, not just familiar names. You'd think college would be the perfect opportunity to branch out, meet people from all over the country, and make friendships beyond the same group you grew up with.

Wouldn’t recommend this house to anyone. If you’re not from Birmingham or don’t come from the XO pipeline, it feels like you’re an afterthought from day one. The girls came across as mean, cliquey, and fake. Loyalty and kindness are all talk. Everyone sticks to their high school friend groups, so good luck finding a real sisterhood if you don’t already know people. During pref they lean hard into the Bible verse, which honestly felt manipulative, like they wanted you to think God was telling you to join. Some girls get fooled during recruitment, but once you’re in, it’s disappointing. Definitely not worth the hype.

Chi O has dropped off a lot over the past couple of years. They have had 2 or 3 social probations that have really hurt them.

Chi O is still a recognizable name at Auburn, but they’re definitely not one of the top tier anymore. They are honestly mid-tier at best. A lot of this comes from the recent problems and SOPRO situations that have followed them the past few years, which really damaged their campus reputation. They still mostly take in-state girls from the same handful of feeder schools, so the chapter can feel pretty closed-off if you don’t fit that mold. I know a few girls who went Chi O and ended up unhappy once they were actually in the chapter, saying the vibe inside was nothing like what they experienced during recruitment. A couple said the environment could be rude or mean-girl, which surprised them. Chi O isn’t a bad house, but they’re not what they used to be and definitely not operating at a top-tier level anymore.

It’s unfortunate that they’ve slipped toward the bottom tier at Auburn, but given all the ongoing problems and SOPRO situation, it’s understandable. Their freshmen were really let down after joining what they believed was a strong sorority, only to go months without any social events. I feel for them, but things seem unstable right now. Honestly, Chi O just isn’t in a good place anymore.

Girls who end up in XO that are not from the XO pipeline of schools usually end up hating it and/or feeling out of place. I know girls who went XO and said that they wish they would have known that about XO before recruitment. It would have changed their decision. Getting in a sorority where everyone already knows each other makes it very difficult, sometimes impossible, to find your place and make friends. If you want high school 2.0, this is for you. If you’re joining a sorority to meet new people and branch out, stay away from XO.
