sources tell me that DDD got 95 and Pi phi got 105

Pi phi got 109

According to Insta posts, DDD got 113.
But adding that to all the other totals puts the number of bids well over the 910 that Panhellenic reported on bid day.

So it looks like at least 1 group (maybe more) have given COB bids in order to reach campus total (after achieving quota) & have included those numbers in with the number of bids issued on bid day. So we really don’t know how many each group got on bid day via the quota process. But we know how many they have now.

DG did not have snap bids to give. Unfortunately.

DG would not have 97 girls if they gave out snap bids. They would have 95 girls which was their quota. You can’t snap bid over quota.

Either way, snap bids are something that should be celebrated! They create opportunities for girls to find their place!!

wish all groups had some to give - but unfortunately, the way the system works is that only groups who don't make quota can give out enough snap bids to get them to quota.

then after rush is over, panhellenic will set a number called "total" which is the number at which a sorority is considered "full." any group under that number can give out as many bids as they need to get to that number - if they want to. but they don't have to. this is how some groups are able to do spring bids. they have girls leave at christmas, drop out or graduate early & they fall below that "total" number, so they have spots open.

last year that total number was around 300. i'd think that number would be higher this year, but not sure yet. if that does happen, more than 1/2 of the groups on campus WILL have snap bids to give. now whether or not they actually offer more bids is their choice. groups who meet or exceed that "total" number are not allowed to add more members.

Snap bids are NOT something to be celebrated, they mean that something has gone VERY WRONG for a chapter's recruitment in failing to bid match to quota and are something that every chapter and panhellenic wants to avoid at all costs. They cause stress and panic and scrambling in the middle of the night for recruitment teams right before bid day and are a huge source for criticism and attempts to shame a chapter. Not a good thing at all except for the lucky few pnm's who get one, but those pnm's should usually not have been released in the first place if something had not gone wrong requiring a chapter to have to snap. They cause far more harm than good.

And "more than 1/2 of the groups on campus WILL have snap bids to give" THOSE ARE NOT SNAP BIDS. THAT'S NOT HOW IT WORKS. No one who actually understands this stuff would make that mistake or speculate about how Total is set. This false information is harmful and confusing, you are confused and ill-informed, just stop it.

Snap and COB have a specific purpose: they do NOT exist to accommodate more girls who want a bid, they exist to maintain equity among the chapters and allow individual chapters to remain viable. There is a practical limit to Total memberships and panhellenic is not going to raise Total unless is has to by the prescribed formulas. COB brings its own set of inconveniences.

Sorority chapters that start getting above 300 members feel less about a sisterhood with people you actually know and more like an impersonal mega-organization machine. Just ask the chapters at Ole Miss or Bama. At some point another sorority has to come on but that's easier said than done and does nothing to help the chapter experience of members in the short term.

Enough with the speculative falsehoods.

What??? It is impossible to "snap bid up to close to total by cob". That doesn't make any sense whatsoever; you are confusing snap, cob, total and bid day and have no idea what you are talking about.
