Old row vs New row

The difference is that most of old row except Kappa is only "good" in Alabama.

Most of new row is very strong nationally except ADPi.

Old Row is actually a fraternity designation based on original campus location. The oldest fraternities on campus originally built their houses on the west side of campus along University Boulevard. They are SAE, DKE, KA, SN, Phi Delt, and Fiji. When more fraternities were established, they started building houses on the east side of campus. So the designation was the Old Row and the New Row of fraternities based on location. That is all mixed up now as far as where houses are located.

Then, some sororities got tacked on to the term "Old Row" when there was a Budweiser sponsored party for the Old Row fraternities. There were seven sororities involved and they became known as "Old Row" by association with the Budweiser sponsored fraternity party - Phi Mu, AXO, XO, DDD, KD, AGD, and KKG. But while these sororities are called Old Row, some even older ones declined to participate so they did not get on the T-shirt - ADPi, Zeta, and DZ have all been here just as long as the so-called Old Row sororities.

So Old Row actually has an actual tangible meaning for fraternities here. It doesn't mean anything for sororities, although insecure Mammas will fight you over that. And it doesn't mean anything at any other school even though it has been co-opted for imagined prestige throughout the SEC.

Top here does not mean 'hot', there are different qualities involved in being considered top and most desirable for both fraternities and sororities. 'Touse' is not used here; if you say that you aren't getting a bid anywhere.
