GPA affecting a bid

by: Kathy

Does anybody know how highschool GPA affects rush? I know it’s pretty brutal at the University of Alabama and you get cut after a 3.7 or below first round. My daughter goes to a super rigorous private school and her GPA is 3.3 unweighted. Will that hurt her or limit her options? She has a good test score as well

Of course GPA matters. TCU has a minimum GPA of 2.75 to rush but each sorority has their own national requirements. Even if you mean the requirements, houses still take GPA into consideration. Some houses will drop girls just off their GPA before they meet them. Also, if they are on the fence with a girl, they’ll use their GPA to help decide. I don’t think top houses will be fighting over someone with a 3.3, but I’m sure someone will take her.

Good to know! A few of my friends whose kiddos are/were at TCU said it doesn’t really matter after the video round and the cutoff for most houses r 3.2. Is that not true?

Correct, the 1st round is the GPA cuts and the more selective recruiting sororities have to release more pnm's, so it all depends on the chapter.

Yes, usually is an auto drop. But those national guidelines are just guidelines, and the chapters have their own GPA cutoffs which aren't published. Any chapter can take someone below their own GPA guideline if they wish, such as a pnm with very close chapter ties, or a high profile on campus or otherwise, or some other VERY exceptional quality. Also just meeting a chapter's GPA cutoff doesn't give a pnm an automatic pass to round 2.
