Junior year, I had a 9 AM organic chemistry lab, chapter exec meeting every Sunday at 8 PM, a philanthropy event to coordinate, and three brothers texting me about something related to recruitment. Before I joined a fraternity, I used to think the social calendar stuff was just random. Like, chapters threw events, people showed up, and that was that. Nobody was strategizing anything. Then I actually got inside one and realized the pairing system - which sorority your chapter invites to a mixer, which fraternity a sorority reaches out to for a philanthropy event - is probably one of the more calculated things happening on any given campus. It's not random at all. It's basically politics with a dress code.
