Texas State University - TXST Overview

  About Greek Life at TXST

Texas State University is a large public school in San Marcos — sitting right between Austin and San Antonio — and the Greek system there reflects a campus that's busy, social, and growing fast. TXST has well over 30,000 students, so while the Greek community is a real presence, it's not the kind of school where everyone goes through rush. It's one piece of a bigger social picture.

The system is organized across multiple councils. IFC covers the men's fraternities, Panhellenic covers the NPC sororities, and NPHC represents the historically Black fraternities and sororities. There's also a multicultural presence through organizations like Omega Delta Phi, which reflects how the student body itself skews more diverse than a lot of Texas schools. Chapters active on campus include Lambda Chi Alpha, Pi Kappa Alpha, Sigma Chi, Sigma Nu, Theta Chi, and Tau Kappa Epsilon on the fraternity side, and Alpha Delta Pi, Chi Omega, Delta Gamma, Zeta Tau Alpha, and Gamma Phi Beta among others for sororities.

Recruitment happens in the fall for most chapters, with Panhellenic running a structured formal recruitment process and IFC operating on a more informal, ongoing basis. If you're going through Panhellenic rush, expect multiple rounds spread across about a week. Fraternity recruitment tends to be more casual — a lot of it is event-based and gets finalized through bids rather than a set schedule.

Housing is a real part of Greek life at TXST. Several chapters have houses, and Greek Row has a physical presence on campus that makes the community more visible day-to-day. Philanthropy is taken seriously — chapters regularly put on events tied to their national causes, and it's a consistent part of how organizations stay active throughout the semester.

San Marcos is a college town in the truest sense, and social life there runs pretty deep into the weekend. Greek organizations are involved in that scene, but they share the stage with a lot of other student groups, clubs, and the general energy that comes with being a short drive from two major cities. The Greek community here is well-established and has been growing alongside the university itself.
