Theta - have they picked their pledges yet?
by: KatWondering if the new Thetas have already been chosen based on alumni or will there still be spots open? And will they be going for local /in state or region girls only?

No, yes, and no. Theta can't pre-choose anybody. They can't start their rush until after formal recruitment after all pnm's have accepted bids, and most pnm's will want to go ahead and join a chapter and be with their friends, so Theta will have to pick from what's left over. Theta is starting a brand new chapter from scratch so their national reps will do the recruiting and will be focused on getting quality over anything else. Pnm's who hold out rush for Theta and think they're a lock could be in for a rude awakening. Legacy or locale won't matter as much as they think. Any ties to the chapter's younger alumnae with their problematic history, especially to ones who got un-Theta'd at the end, will almost be an automatic cut, and with more than half of SMU being out of state now, all the sorority memberships are reflecting that mix. The last thing Theta can afford is another prominent embarrassment here so this chapter has GOT TO work out from the start. Members will be under a microscope and have to fall in line more than other sororities; no hint of hazing, absolutely no drinking. They will not have full classes for some years while they build and will be open to accepting members from all over with no connections as long as they are quality girls. This is not going to be like the old days.

You've got to be kidding. They are all automatically blacklisted. There really aren't any around anymore anyway, that was the main condition Theta had before they would agree to come back, absolutely zero ts presence left on campus.

They took every society girl that was a pledge at the time that they got kicked off. Spencer Jennings is going to be the president. Very interesting Frankenstein kind of group that they put together. It’ll be interesting to see how that all shakes out.

they will get the scraps from recruitment. the girls who get dropped for reputation risk, grades, things that happen during silly week, etc. they can only cob this year. but the ones who didn't get bids last year for the reasons above seem to be interested in theta lol.

If anything, they will be looking for the girls with HIGHER GPAs to start the new chapter.
Some this year's PAM'S should realize before dropping recruitment thinking they can just join Theta: The alums and national sorority will be looking to take sophomores, juniors, even some seniors so that the new chapter is balanced in ages (...and so everybody won't graduate at the same time).

I was surprised by how… not choosy they seemed to be. A couple pretty girls dropped from general recruitment that have reputation risks, and then majority are a bit odd.

They got all the girls that no one else wanted not a flex. Most of these girls had gone through recruitment two and three times.

Everyone that went through recruitment got a did-they can’t be selective. Welcome to the new Theta. The seniors will graduate soon and they will be starting at the bottom and fighting for their lives during normal recruitment.

Disagree. All the great girls that are cut from PBP, KKG, and ddd will join theta. They might get 100 girls. It will be impressive and no I’m not a Kat.
