Kentucky is a flagship SEC school in Lexington, and the Greek system there reflects exactly what you'd expect from a large public university in the South — it's big, it's active, and it's genuinely woven into campus social life. With nearly thirty fraternities and over twenty sororities, there's a wide range of chapters operating across multiple councils.

The main governing bodies are the Interfraternity Council (IFC), Panhellenic Council, and the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC). IFC oversees the majority of traditionally white fraternities, Panhellenic handles the sororities, and NPHC represents the historically Black fraternities and sororities — including chapters of Alpha Phi Alpha, Kappa Alpha Psi, Alpha Kappa Alpha, Delta Sigma Theta, and others. That structure is pretty standard for a school this size.

Formal recruitment for Panhellenic sororities happens in the fall and is a pretty big deal — it's structured, multi-round, and draws a lot of first-year women. IFC rush is a bit more relaxed by comparison, though chapters vary in how formal their process is. NPHC chapters recruit on their own timeline through interest meetings and intake processes rather than formal rush.

Housing is a real part of the experience here. Many of the larger IFC and Panhellenic chapters have houses, and Greek Row is an actual place on campus — you'll know it when you see it, especially during football season. UK is SEC, so fall Saturdays are a major social event, and Greek organizations are heavily involved in that whole scene.

Philanthropy is taken seriously across the board. Most chapters have signature fundraising events tied to their national causes, and there's a decent culture of community service that runs alongside the social side of things. Greek Week and other all-Greek events bring the councils together periodically throughout the year.
