Before I joined a fraternity, I spent my freshman year watching Greek life from the outside. And what I saw was mostly a feed of professionally lit group photos, matching outfits, philanthropic highlight reels, and captions about brotherhood and sisterhood that read like they were drafted by a PR team. Formal recruitment hasn't changed in any meaningful way in over a decade. The format, the forced conversations, the scripted rounds, the way chapters get ranked and cut before anyone's had a real chance to connect - it's all running on the same logic it ran on in 2005.
