Difference in In State and Out of State Sororities

by: GoGreek

Sororities at Auburn are more split by vibe and where girls are from than any type of “ranking.” You have your mainly in-state sororities that attract PNMs wanting their college experience with girls from the same schools/towns and people they already know. Then you have the more OOS-heavy sororities that attract out-of-state girls plus in-state girls who actually want to branch out, meet new people, and not stay in the same high school friend groups forever.

And honestly, if you don’t already have a ton of connections in some of the heavily in-state houses, a lot of PNMs end up feeling out of place there. Not because the girls are “mean,” but because a lot of the members already know each other through hometowns, private schools, camps, dance teams, lake groups, church groups, etc. It can feel really established already, especially for OOS girls or even in-state girls from smaller towns who didn’t grow up in those circles. A lot of PNMs want a chapter where everyone is starting fresh together instead of walking into something that already feels pre-connected.

Neither is better than the other. They are just different types of chapters with different member makeup.

Out of State Sororities- these are not in any type of order:
Gamma Phi Beta
Sigma Kappa
Delta Gamma
Delta Delta Delta
Pi Beta Phi
Zeta Tau Alpha
Alpha Xi Delta
Delta Zeta

In State Sororities - these are not in any type of order
Alpha Omicron Pi
Alpha Delta Pi
Kappa Delta
Alpha Gamma Delta
Chi Omega
Phi Mu
Kappa Delta
Alpha Chi Omega

These are really a mix of both:
Kappa Alpha Theta
Kappa Kappa Gamma
Sigma Sigma Sigma
