looking for some real advice!

Recently a number of the posts have all been telling pnms not to get hung up on getting top tier houses because statistically it's just difficult, and some have even gone so far as to do the math for the PC sizes for ALL of the houses versus the total number of girls rushing, and are saying that would mean HUNDREDS of girls are going to be dropped by all houses and not get bids at all.
I am a transfer, I am a junior, I am statistically not as desirable for a house bc of my age, and with all those girls going through recruitment it seems like I'm set up for failure. I'm nice and I'm normal and I would be ok with any "tier" (i think that whole idea is absurd anyway) as long as I love the girls I meet in the house, and everyone says "just be yourself and you'll be fine" but it seems like it's a long shot! Are the numbers people have been putting out there accurate? Should I just cut my losses and save my $175?

If you are nice, normal, open minded, and not a grade risk, you have right there up'ed your odds tremendously. If being in a sorority is something you are really interested in, you should absolutely give rush a try. There are a lot of success stories for upperclassmen, going in with the right attitude tho is a big factor in where or not it works out. Top tier or bust is an example of an attitude that statistically is not a good way to approach rush.

Those posts aren't to scare people off from recruitment, it's just to put a lid on all the PNMs that think that it's top tier or nothing. It's not a long shot, you'll be fine and you sound like someone I would be friends with so you have my vote. And hundreds of girls won't be dropped, a lot of girls release themselves. There's no lid to the amount of girls a house will take, the number is set by panhellenic each year based on the number of girls that pref. So you're not competing with every girl for a specific spot, you're just trying to find the right fit for yourself, if that makes sense.

Thank you! It totally makes sense and was just the kind of encouragement I needed to feel good about taking the leap! While I know not joining a sorority wouldn't be a make or break moment for me, I would be lying if I said I wasn't really excited about the idea of it. I'm a transfer from out of state so I don't know a single person on campus, and while there are TONS of ways to get involved at UF it seems like the opportunity to join a chapter would be an awesome way to quick-track my involvement and make the absolute most out of my two years here!
