rush

by: PNM

I kept a really open mind going into recruitment, and the houses that called me back are really sweet and nice girls, but at the end of the day I just can't see myself fitting in with their house. I got dropped from a lot of houses I connected with (99% sure its because of my gpa, I have a 2.58). Should I wait to just rush next year or try informal? Im planning on finishing at least pref round to try and see if I can see myself more in any of these houses and trying to trust the process.

Yeah- give it through pref, but if you’re not feeling any of them after that then it may help to come back next year after you get your gpa up

Agree with ^. Go through pref at least, and take that time to talk to the sisters preffing you. Talk about the things that matter to you (it can be superficial like a hobby to something deeper like a struggle you've had, heck, you can even ask how the chapter might help you get your GPA up), and see how a conversation goes about something you're passionate about.

It might be good to make notes on the a couple of things about each chapter you're preffing at that made you worried you wouldn't fit in and ask the sister about that. Say they are really involved with their philanthropy and put a lot of time and effort into that throughout the year but you just don't feel a connection to it. You might ask the sister "I'm really impressed by how much work you do with [philanthropy] and how involved you all are, what are some other ways sisters get involved in the chapter?" Or if they're not as social around campus as you'd like, you might ask "during the sisterhood party I loved all of the sisterhood events you guys plan, do you plan stuff with the rest of the greek community? If I was interested in working on that what could I get involved in as a sister?"

Remember, chapters are large and you're never going to connect with everyone, even if you ended up at your first choice. But you will find sisters you will love to death and who make your college experience amazing. Also, sometimes being a "big fish in a small pond" can provide you opportunities you wouldn't get at a larger or more popular chapter.

Take a shot as not many chapters offer many informal bids, and you typically need to have connections with sisters and meet the min GPA to get one. If you really don't connect, then take the next two semesters and get your grades up and get to know greek women outside of recruitment. Sometimes having someone in the chapters who know you well can offset a bad GPA (a little, but minimum GPAs are still there).

The comment above is awesome as heck but I'd also like to add that you've actually met such a small portion of the chapter it might be kind of difficult for you to judge where you'd fit in (which is why chapters have more say then pnms during this whole process). They recruit based on values so just because you arent clicking with the girl you're talking to doesnt mean theres no one in the chapter you'll click with. They keep inviting you back which means from what they've learned about you they think you might fit in. Their seemingly innocent questions (like asking about your relationship with your family) tell them a ton about your personality and values. This is why we always say trust the process. As long as you're honest you'll end up where you belong, the chapters are trained to figure it out. I'd also go far as to say you should accept the bid even if you think you dont click. You have until initiation to drop and rerush next year so there's no harm in trying the house out and seeing if you end up falling in love. I know a few girls who got their last choice and are now some of the most active in their chapter and are absolutely in love with it. Trust the process and everything will work out <3
