off campus frats
by: sophomore rushWhat's the deal with the off campus frats? From what I've seen and heard they always seem to have good parties and hang out with top sororities and fraternities. Also most of the sophomores ive talked to in phi psi and phi tau all live off campus and phi taus still live in their house. All that being said is it worth rushing those if theres no real difference between being off campus and on campus?

lol not all off-campus fraternities are that good. They might still have dirty socials with good sororities, but recruitment takes a huge hit when you go off-campus. When you finally do get "back on campus", you'll be having nationals coming around and picking goobs to restart the chapter. Just join a top tier on campus fraternity, where you don't have to hide from the university, have official events and an overall better experience

Being off-campus only has downsides, anyone who tells you otherwise isn't being truthful, except money, they don't have to pay anything to nationals. That being said, are there ways around a lot of the downsides? yes. Can off-campus fraternities remain relevant and have a great greek life experience? yes. Do all the off-campus frats stay alive? no. I'd recommend not factoring in whether the fraternity is on or off campus when potential members are looking around for their place. If the fraternity, even if off campus, seems to be doing well and you feel like you belong, then I'm sure that might just be the place for you - regardless of the schools view of the organization. It's about the people in the fraternities at the end of the day.
