Most Important thing for recruitment?

by: New Tiger

What is the best advice you could give me for going through recruitment? On paper I look good, but I won’t know anybody in any of the houses and I can be super shy and stressful situations. I have great grades my looks are fine. I’m not awkward. I have good activities but again I’m very quiet. Any suggestions would be so appreciated.

Don’t worry about not knowing anyone in the houses. While you want to be as genuine as possible to find your best fit, being shy and quiet could work against you during rush. By the very nature of rush, the focus of each round is short conversation with essentially strangers. How these interactions go are the primary basis for cuts. Grades will only matter maybe the first round depending on each house’s GPA cutoff. You sound like a person who may take a while to warm up to people and there just isn’t enough time for this to happen. Best advice – you may have to force yourself out of your comfort zone a little bit.

I am similar! While you want to stay true to yourself, you also want to make a good impression in the short amount of time you have for convos. What I’ve found to be helpful is imagining that I have a “recruitment persona” to turn on - this girl is you, but more chatty, smiley, and confident. I think this is an actually a great skill to have and you can use it one future for interviews, public speaking, networking events, recruitment as an upperclassman, etc.
