Mizzou is a flagship Big 12 school sitting in the middle of Missouri, and its Greek system is one of the more visible parts of campus life in Columbia. With dozens of active fraternities and sororities spread across multiple governing councils, this is a school where Greek organizations have a real footprint — on the social calendar, on fraternity row, and in campus culture generally.

The main governing bodies are IFC and Panhellenic, which cover the majority of chapters you've probably heard of. On top of that, the NPHC organizations — including Alpha Phi Alpha, Kappa Alpha Psi, Omega Psi Phi, Delta Sigma Theta, and Zeta Phi Beta — have a long-standing presence on campus. There's also Sigma Alpha, which is an agricultural sorority, reflecting Mizzou's strong College of Agriculture and its deep roots in rural Missouri. The system isn't one-size-fits-all.

Fraternity row is a real thing here. A lot of the IFC chapters have houses clustered near campus, and they're hard to miss. Panhellenic chapters also have chapter facilities, which plays a big role in how recruitment works. Formal recruitment for sororities is pretty structured — think multiple rounds over several days. IFC rush tends to be a bit more spread out and casual by comparison, with events happening throughout the semester.

Socially, Greek life carries a lot of weight at Mizzou. Football season amplifies it — tailgating and game-day culture pull the whole campus together, and Greek chapters are a big part of that scene. The philanthropic side is also active; chapters regularly put on events and fundraisers tied to their national causes, and there's generally a culture of participation around those.

The discussion and engagement on sites like this one reflect just how much students pay attention to the Greek scene here — people are invested, opinions are strong, and word travels fast in Columbia. It's a community that takes itself seriously without being completely insular from the rest of campus life.
