Bouse reality-will they still be around?

by: PnM

Be honest. I am rushing and I don’t care at all about ‘ranks’ as long as the women I meet make me feel comfortable and I could see myself fitting in. But I want to know if the ‘bottom houses’ are in any danger of losing their chapters at Mizzou Tri Sigma did a couple years ago due to low numbers. I wouldn’t want to join a house that won’t make it through 4 years or always be in a state of struggling to stay afloat.

The best way to make sure your house will be around for a long time to come is to choose a house with a strong national and a long history on this campus. They also are the houses with the strongest alumni network that donates and supports Columbia chapters. Those would obviously include PiPhi, ChiO, Theta, ADPi, ADPi, TriDelt and AXO. Other chapters, like Gphi, DG and APhi, have been here more than awhile, but their nationals have not been pleased lately at the quality of the members, sisterhood and GPA. So I would stay away from those. And I hate to say it but the newer chapters, like SK, are always suspect because they just haven't gained much traction and lose a lot of members.

I'm pretty confident that there are no chapters here at Mizzou that are in danger of following in the footsteps of Tri Sig (at least in the next few years). You can use the Greek report card to track the official membership numbers of each house. Almost all of the houses annually maintain at or close to their max allowable membership. The only houses that I've heard have retention issues are Phi Mu, SK and Alpha Phi - but I'm not sure how exaggerated these claims are. At any rate, it doesn't seem near the point where any of these houses are gonna go under. Contrary to Here's A Hint's post (whose bias is plainly evident), GPhi, DG and APhi have both strong national and local support - they are not going away from Mizzou anytime soon, even if you don't like their sisterhood. Additionally, Kappa and KD are also strong nationally and locally. KD just spent millions upgrading their house two years ago.

Thank you. I’m trying to go into rush as prepared as possible.
