Ranking houses by reputation

by: RealQ

Do people in Greek houses really care about the ‘top house/bottom house’ thing? Seems ridiculous to categorize/rank houses by some random reputations instead of making the whole Greek community feel inclusive. I want to rush for the community and philanthropy and have a positive experience but sites like this make me think it’s all as petty as highschool…is it?? Be honest. I’ve already heard girls in my class act like they HAVE to get in a ‘top house’ or they’ll drop out of rush and try to COB or get a snap bid for a top house. That’s pathetic

It is too bad more girls don't go into recruitment with this attitude.

Just ignore them. You do you.

Some houses are very much like high school 2.0. Some houses are about actual sisterhoods and setting members up for success postgrad. Some houses are more about social media and wanting to be influencers and pleasing boys. Some houses have alumna that will help you find internships and jobs.
Stay true to who you are and what you want out of a sisterhood and you will be just fine. Those who have a narrow (and incorrect) view of what a top house is will likely be disappointed.
Tip:
Top social houses and top well rounded houses are equally hard to get into. They just recruit very different girls.

Thank you, this makes a lot of sense.

I disagree with these comments. I’m in a house considered to be lower, not sk or phi mu low, but low. And tbh we don’t have as much fun as the top houses. They go out more, they are more involved, yes this is kind of individual but girls in top houses will look at you a little differently. If you don’t care go ahead. But I’m telling you. There’s a difference

In all fairness, I think you are generalizing based on your own experience. I'm a junior in a "mid" house. My other pref was a "top" house. I have a lot of close friends from other houses across the board. Many of us were in the same freshman dorm when we rushed - we just ended up at different places. But we all still hang out fairly often, so I am able to make a pretty good comparison between many of the houses. Are there some differences and do some members look down on certain houses? Definitely. But I don't think it's as drastic as you make it out to be. I love where I'm at and I have had just as much fun as my friends in other houses. Every single house has great girls and every house has their undesirables.

Don't let this site mislead you - the drama on here is ridiculous and seemingly perpetrated by a handful of the same people, who are serial posters. And, unfortunately, there will always be those girls who never mentally graduated high school. However, the vast majority of sorority girls at Mizzou pay no attention to this site and many of them represent the things that you are seeking. Full disclosure - rush can be full of anxiety and you might experience some of the pettiness. But I highly recommend you go through the process and the chances are good that you will find what you are looking for and a place that fits you well. Worst case, you can just drop out of rush, if you get to that point. Overall, the Panhellenic community at Mizzou is very strong IMO.

There's nothing wrong with dropping out if you can't get into the house you want. If you won't be proud to wear your letters, don't pledge that house. There are lots of ways to go through college; being part of Greek life is just one of them. And, to be honest, by the time you are a junior or senior and deep into your major, the typical sorority stuff seems sort of petty anyway.
