Let's unpack: Claim of having the 'hottest' or ...

by: Info

How does claiming the 'hottest' or 'prettiest' members mean that a sorority is the best or most relevant? This is not intended as discussion of specific sororities ... only the reasoning behind the perception in 2022. Let's unpack.

Houses with the best sisterhood recruit based on character, gpa, etc. Houses you see on TT usually only want influencers and this backfires as girls end up dropping the houses they pledge. There is a direct correlation between retention rates and the reason why someone pledges. There is also a lot more stress on girls who pledge the "pretty" house. Pretty houses often have the rep of being not too bright and/or sleazy.

TT and GR are not what sorority life is at Bama. Saying houses with the hottest girls are best is like saying Hooters is the best restaurant.

There is also a BIG difference between “hottest” and “prettiest” at Bama in terms of reputation.

OP here. Is it generally thought that women considered to be in "hot" or "pretty" sororities are less involved on campus? Is this accurate or just a sterotype?

Just look at the house websites. Most list what they are involved in. Tons of pretty girls hold leadership on campus.

Big difference between hot and pretty (I’d use beautiful instead here).

hot - forced
pretty/beautiful - authentic/total package

When your in college you want to be social. Looks houses are the most socially relevant.

No, the Old Row houses are the most socially relevant. Old Row fraternities aren’t reaching out to Zeta and Alpha Phi for swaps.

Many girls want the most social houses and majority of the time this means the most attractive houses. That's what they are paying for. They are in college and want to enjoy the full experience. There is nothing wrong with that and yet they keep getting knocked down. The houses that are "full package" are not as attractive, but many like to label them as top because of grades, resume, and retention. Many of them are looking for their life partners. Different goals.

@Val Good thing there's always space at those houses because they are always doing COB. APhi has to plege a new class just about every semester. They did 50 COB last spring and now they still need members.

You don't know the socials scheduled for the other houses because you aren't in one. Anyone can hang in a bar and party if that's their goal and be "social."

@ha, I think you are missing the other person's point. There is no reason to knock someone for joining the most attractive group. They want different things from the experience and that is fine. They probably don't care if their house has to COB and they just might drop after a few years too. It's all about what someone wants for the $10k they are paying. There are plenty of members who get tired of being in a sorority and the sisterhood is not for them anymore. It's ok. If you are happy with your choice, your house's reputation and retention rate, and sisterhood why worry about another house? Be proud of where you are.

@Spiedy haha I guess it depends on what is considered "social" and "most attractive," because that point is not true.

YOU have a good point though. It's their 10k, and "hot" girls with this mentality probably wouldn't have better houses as options anyway.

Lol as messed up as it is I guess it’s valid that some girls want to join a “hot house” so they can say their in it and be social for a few years and drop when they’ve had their fun. I guess there are girls that think that way and don’t really care about having anything except parties and boys

‘Attractiveness’ doesn’t effect sorority’s reasoning, but rather if a PNM has been active in their community, has potential to network, has a great GPA/ is interested in excelling in higher education & is passionate about helping others! (Philanthropy).

I don't know what rock you are living under, but majority of OR and NR do not want unattractive women. Also, there are too many women that get overlooked who have excellent gpas, resumes, and community involvement. That VBR is just a shield, imo.
