Living in the house

by: Alabama

My chapter is having trouble filling the house, and if we can’t get a few more girls to fill it they start forcing people. If you say no you have to drop. Thoughts?? I’m so nervous. I already signed a lease somewhere. They’re picking based on gpa involvement etc. which I am high in but still makes me worried. Can they actually force you to drop???

If you've signed a lease somewhere, you can't be forced to break that lease to move into your sorority house. Contact nationals if they try.

These rules are in the Bylaws of many Sororities' Nationals and they would back up the chapter.

my chapter is always like: please live in house! we can help break any lease so you can move in ASAP :))) very scary that a sorority has the power to make someone break a lease when most of these leases are airtight bc they wanna exploit students lol

they usually pay to break the leasing contract bc it’s cheaper to do that than not fill the spot

It would be less like forcing you to drop and more just kicking you out for not fulfilling membership requirements. I suspect it probably wouldn’t get to that point but yeah it’s possible.

That’s a pretty common issue in my house and we just make the out of house girls (excluding those who lived in in the past) split the rent for the empty beds.

We've lost a lot of girls and that's what we're doing
