waiting to rush soph year

My gpa from high school is not good at all. I do have reasons for it but I’m not sure if that’ll help. If I wait to rush until sophomore year is that a bad thing? Will houses drop me because I’m older & will I mostly talk to the freshman pledge class rather then people my age? Or should I rush and see how it goes & if I don’t like the results rush again sophomore year?
