I personally see wealth as more than just money. In my eyes its monetary i.e assets, investments etc BUT also combined with coming from (or creating) a good family, having a college education and good job, good connections, quality friends, living in a good area, being well travelled, healthy relationships etc. From your story, I believe you're rich but not wealthy.

Where your mother works, how much property your family owns and does it produce income, truly wealthy families have many sources of income including both parents

I love it when people talk about how "we're" rich but they mean their parents. "We only buy cheap clothes we don't care" I think you mean your parents decide not to buy expensive clothes. Until you have assets of your own you aren't rich, your parents are. Yes people will still perceive you as rich but stay humble please

I know a girl who’s parents declared bankruptcy and paying her dues was still top priority. Sorry, that’s when you drop or you take out a loan and pay it back later vs making your parents go into debt

How are kids okay with their parents doing this...... going into debt not just for your education and for you to live comfortably but to be in a sorority and put on a show. I would feel so guilty

Rich means your parents can fly in, and fly you and friends, around on private aircraft. Believe it or not, a decent of that kind of money is around.
Otherwise, being “well off” probably means your family lives in a very nice neighborhood, with homes in the million dollar range (big down here...), a lake or beach place, no problems flying out of town for SEC championship and bowl games, plenty of super nice clothes and accessories, and whatnot.

Wait do you mean homes in the million dollar range are big down here as in the south? The south is one of the cheapest places to live in the country..... remember we are in Alabama not New York or LA

No one is out of touch. Plenty of million dollar homes in Alabama. Just look at the real estate listings in any major town or city or lake/resort area in this state. Or property tracts. Lots of people in Alabama who are “land poor”. Meaning they own huge tracts on land that are worth millions but live a quiet lifestyle.

TBH 300k a year is not that much money. And I'm not saying that to be a flex or anything. Knock off nearly half for taxes and then you start seeing what you have to play around with. Throw in several kids in private school and in college and there's not a ton left over for a baller life. It's def really comfortable. Everyone has cars and clothes they want but there's no Rosemary Beach house with that kind of money.

Look around when you drive through Alabama. 300k is rich to 90% of the people who live in this state. Ik we are talking about standards for Greek life which is different, but we are still in Alabama, one of the poorer states.

$300k/year is considered wealthy in Alabama because the cost of living is so much lower here than other places.
People do make considerably less in Alabama compared to other places, but it’s because the cost of living is so much lower. If they moved to a different part of the country the pay scale would adjust accordingly.

I'm not debating the percentile. Yes on paper 300k/year is way above what most Alabamans will ever have and most Americans. However, when you start considering the Greek Life bubble, it's different. 300k is definitely comfortable/well off. 300k is not rich. You can argue against it all you want but it's not. Taxes alone on 300k/year knock that number down significantly.

If you don't live like you're wealthy then you won't be "considered rich" as the OP asked. Money isn't the only thing people consider as wealth.
