Phi Mu tends to heavily cross rush with other OR houses. Rarely do Phi Mu and Zeta heavily cross rush the same girls... Why? Because Phi Mu and Zeta have different ideal PNMs. Phi Mu's ideal PNM is a Southern, well-rounded, smart, and pretty girl. However, Phi Mu lacks a lot of interest from instate girls simply because PM just doesn't have a big national presence, meaning there aren't a lot of instate PNMs who are legacies of PM. So PM tends to heavily rush girls from the general SouthEast region as well as very well rounded girls from far OOS, such as the West and East Coasts.
Zeta tends to heavily cross rush with Alpha Phi and Pi Phi. ZTA's ideal PNM is a pretty and socially outgoing girl. ZTA tends to lack a lot of interest from instate girls simply because of reputation. ZTA doesn't compete with OR houses so they heavily rush girls from far OOS and their pledge classes are mainly comprised of girls from the tri state area (NY, NJ, CT), the West Coast, and Illinois.
So why do people tend to compare them? Both houses are conscious of appearances. Both are known for being partial to pretty girls and having girls who are materialistic in a sense. However, I think it's important to note that while PM does place an emphasis on appearances they also care about what else a PNM has to offer. PM has the upper hand during rush compared to ZTA so PM can be much more selective... And they are, PM tends to take girls who are not only pretty but also smart and involved. Whereas ZTA tends to take girls who fall sort in those areas.
Idk, in my opinion PM and ZTA are completely different and personally I don't understand why people lump them together. Hope this explanation helped.

This holds true to people's stereotypes, but from what I saw in girls cards, there was allot more cross rushing than this suggests.

@Breakdown thanks for contributing the typical outsiders summarization of what they think a particular chapter is like or trying to say who goes where for prefs. Sorry you missed out on being Greek in college but for the record no one spends time analyzing another org when we're taught to keep discretion on internal issues/interest. You trolls are always recycling lies and misinfo.

Lol I'm a rising junior and I think this site is fun to read every once in a while. And sporadically I'll reply to a post. Stop acting like you're so righteous, there's nothing differentiation you from me. We're both on this site and honestly who knows if you're even an active.
I gave my 2 cents about my view on PM & ZTA and obviously a handful of people agreed with me.
And for the record, since I see literally no one else saying this, PM and ZTA do not purposefully cross rush. There maybe girls who pref both PM and ZTA but it's not a lot and it's not common. You'll have more of a chance preffing PM and another OR house than preffing PM and ZTA. Also, when I rushed I had a friend who preffed PM and Gamma Phi... She even said herself after the fact that she thought it was weird to pref such radically different houses.

PM has a ton of legacies in state. Not like KD, Kappa, XO and DDD. More than AGD. Prob like AXO. Also, like AXO, they are more in-state focused but not Mobile, Mountain Brook and Montgomery. Think Birmingham, Huntsville and various smaller towns in central and northern Alabama is where they are strongest in state. Both AXO and PM are very strong with Deep South OOS and with OOR, which is where they usually out-class the rest of old row. Lately, only DDD and KKG are showing signs of competing with PM and AXO for the top OOS and OOR. Of the new row, maybe sometimes ADPi, PBP and ZTA can become a factor, especially for legacies or pnms that are a major target and have in-house connections — but at the end of the day, most pnms go old row over new row, regardless. (Have to give kudos to ZTA though bc last year they got some OOS that many old row were very interested in).

This is how I think of it: the girls that phi mu goes after hard for will still have zeta on their schedule up to sisterhood (eventually dropping them for a mix of old row houses) but the girls that zeta guns hard for will rarely have phi mu on their schedule after philanthropy (phi mu will usually drop them). I've never met a girl who told me she preffed both phi mu and zeta but I've heard of a lot of girls preffjng phi mu kd and kappa, axo chi o and phi mu, tri delt phi mu kd, those are just examples i've heard talking to friends of mine

it may be in the southern region, but for OOS girls I know multiple girls that preffed phi mu and zeta

It's definitely a regional thing for me. I'm also considered Southern, but Zeta has a very strong local chapter and Phi Mu pretty much doesn't exist. There are definitely girls who are popular, pretty, and wealthy who prefer Zeta but they also don't care at all about school. I guess they become realtors or use university to make "connections." It's the house for football rats and rich party girls with reputations so bad Kappa won't take them.

Maybe t is just me but tbh phi m does not give off a southern vibe, more from everywhere and kinda city rather than small town. Like Midwest, Dallas, Atlanta, Charlotte, Zta gives off more of a big city vibe and kinda an Indy thing. Like LA, NY, Miami. More irreverent, while pmu is more conforming. For OOS I think zta May cross with ddd more than pmu, if they cross with any top house for a Given pnm.

No. The ones that get a bid on pmu’s first or second list go pmu... if they don’t, they go zta. Region has. I thing to do with it.
