true trolls
by: Trolls
True trolls are not people who come on here to give opinions about sororities that you may not agree with. That’s not a troll.
A troll is someone who is coming on that has nothing to do with UA and is disparaging the whole school. In a recent thread, someone insinuates that this is not a good academic school. This is a troll. No one here is going to come on this site and put down their school. Students here are excelling in the real world and MANY turned down scholarships at more selective schools. The honors college offers prestigious internships, it is true that the alum association in NYC is among the largest in the country and active, that alabama draws students across the country with high ACTs, has a grad starting AS Hamilton in “Hamilton” on Broadway currently, fabulous study abroad programs and girls who take their gpas a lot more seriously than previous generations. I think the jealousy stems from the football program’s success- so the trolls come on to hate.... but they fail again bc this is a well-rounded school and their facts are again wrong. Google “student got in every Ivy League and chose ....” and you will see one example. There are many but that made the news bc it’s rare to get in every ivy..... As a poster earlier said, NYC loves Alabama. Wall Street hires our grads bc they are hardworking and without attitude.... unlike people who come on here with no connection to UA.

Except that trolls are on here also disparaging houses for whatever random reason, and that's obvious.
It's easy to tell when most of the trolls post (although I suspect that it's the same person desperate to be relevant at a school they know nothing about, other than what they can creep on social media and here). You can also tell the bored high school kids who may or may not be PNMs but sure do have opinions that make no sense.
It wouldn't surprise me if the people coming on here to attack the school itself are the same frustrated people who realize that we don't care about their stupid trolling. It's also possible it's bored people from other schools, but it seems unlikely. What actual college Greek has that much time on their hands?

Right, or alums of certain sororities who come on and say this chapter “extols the ideals of its founders and nationals...” NO student or even alum living in the real world says that. The founders of every sorority would probably roll in their graves if they say sorority life at any big school these days... but especially the ones these seem to be pushing. And every time a negative word is said, TROLL comes out in caps. It’s so embarrassing honestly.

reporting this nugget from the post "10 threads back" -- aka the "Grades" post:
Though very rude, the comment from "to be fair" is actually pretty accurate. Elite employers don't recruit from Bama or the SEC in general, besides Vandy, and if there are any pickings at all they are very very very slim, and many of the top employment destinations are for MBA and Law School graduates. Don't believe me? Look at the opportunities on Handshake, they're not very impressive!
For example, no VC recruits at UA, nor does JPM, CS, DB, UBS, Cravath, Bain, O'Melveny, McK, BCG, etc. - and the very few positions at good employers are typically pretty bad. Deloitte recruits UA grads, but not for their prestigious strategy practice. Tesla recruits there, but for sales & service positions not for their engineering or innovation divisions. And Goldman does selectively recruit at Alabama, yes, but not for analyst or associate-track jobs. How do I know? Because my company was recruiting a girl (a Phi Mu) last fall and she turned us down for a sales gig at GS. (Yes, I am a little bitter both as a UA grad and as a recruiter.)
The cold truth is, elite employers simply recruit at higher caliber schools than UA. Prestige companies might at best offer up a handful of junky jobs at Alabama but offer 30 executive-track positions at schools like UNC, UVA, Texas, Berkeley or Michigan (and those are just the public schools). And UA grads tend to stay in the region for the most part so that means even fewer opportunities. Sad but true. Roll Tide.

The thing is though, this isn’t true. This “Alabama grad” who recruits for their company is a little out of touch which is very unfortunate. Of course UA isn’t the most prestigious of universities and some companies do not recruit here, that is the truth. But this person clearly doesn’t know that several people were hired for Goldman analyst positions (so, not sales) out of culverhouse this year, and at least one went to JPM and more than a few went to companies like EY and PWC. One also went to Google (could have also been Amazon, don’t remember). Accounting, OM, and MIS are sending students to the same companies as Georgia Tech and Vanderbilt grads, and those are just a few majors in the business school.
Honestly, it will be a never ending cycle with these people. First they say UA grads don’t get hired at XY company. Then when they find out they do, the jobs aren’t prestigious enough. Then when you tell them a UA grad was in fact hired for that prestigious job, well, it’s just one person so they are the exception 🙄🙄 A handful of great UA alumni who are killing it will lead to more and more especially as the quality of students and programs continues to improve.
Also, handshake has almost zero to do with the opportunities that are actually available, kids, so don’t worry. Apply for whatever tf you want.
