Honestly I get frustrated by SDT a lot because it seems like they have no interested in becoming a “real” sorority and participating in formal recruitment. We desperately need more houses to bring PC sizes down, and a lot of national Panhellenic houses don’t have the resources to be able to come here.
SDT has been here since the 1930s and are a single letter chapter, I don’t understand how the chapter and their nationals are content with their position on this campus.

It makes sense for chapter like ADXi or KBG (I think that’s the new sorority?) to brand themselves as “alternatives” for girls who aren’t looking for the traditional Alabama Panhellenic experience, but why is it ok with a Panhellenic sorority with a long history at Alabama and a national presence to decide they’d rather be “alternative” too

It's not them it's panhellenic that controls that

SDT is moving to the row fall 2019 and participating in formal the year after that, everyone in the sorority wants to move to the row now and do formal but they don't have the required number of girls yet

May I ask your source for that information? What's the required number of girls? Who requires it?

Aunt Gin - there is a required number of girls needed so every PNM has someone to talk to during recruitment. If there are not enough actives, they cannot participate.

It also doesn't help that they aren't exactly svelte and have letters that look like the word EAT.

Their letters look like EAT and sound like SDT. Very unfortunate, that's like having a fraternity named Phi Alpha Gamma or a sorority named Alpha Sigma Sigma.

IMO it’s way better for them to recruit separately, otherwise it will throw off RFM. Tons of PNMs will end up there as they continue to “maximize their options” and then they drop, which is what happened at Texas for years. It created animosity all around.

Not all Panhellenic sorority chapters need to be even. Yet all of our Bama chapters that participate in formal are even sized memberships which makes the system work well.

But going to two prefs instead of three would go a long way to help that out, don't you think?
