Can a soph skip recruitment, show up for bid day and get a bid from a house? How is that possible, I saw it on social media

It's possible this sophomore got a secret COB a while ago and is just being integrated with the most recent PC to make things smoother. But no, you have to go through rush to get a bid on bid day

Yes, it is called COB - Continuous Open Bidding. You have to know someone already in the chapter and be invited to events as their guest for the other members to get to know you well enough to decide if they want to offer a bid. Bids from COB are rare, and houses that are at or above total cannot do it. COB is open to anyone who was not offered a bid during formal rush in fall.
