roommate

by: PNM

My roommate is really dang negative and keeps telling me that I shouldn't like a house because their philanthropy seriously helped me (Phi Mu and the CMNH) and the girls I've met so far are great. She also is under the impression that sororities don't do much for philanthropy. Am I wrong to want the chance be a part of an organization that changed my childhood and teen years? I know that I may not end up in Phi Mu and I'll be happy wherever I land, but I'm feeling kind of dumb and naïve because of her. I'm doing great on Rush and have been having an absolutely amazing time and if any actives are reading this, Thank you all for managing all of this and for putting on a great week. You all are amazing and I would be honored to be part of a sisterhood that involves any of you. I'm proud to be a PNM in your process. And to my fellow PNMs, may your cuts be light, your hair withstand the heat and rain, and your makeup always look beautiful. I'm so happy that you all are so great and making friends with all of you is so easy. Thanks so much!!!

Listen to your heart, not your roommate/mom/girl in line in front of you/ranks on this site.
She isn't living your life, you are.

Most houses are pretty lazy with their philanthropies. I definitely would not recommend choosing your house based on their charity!

Up until pref, houses choose you not the other way around. Clearly you like something about the house, so don't put it below the cut off line unless you are only liking them because of their philanthropy.

Thank you! I'm fully aware that the houses choose me! I'm not expecting to get into any house! I'm just scouting out all my options and trying to keep my mind open!

My house is really involved in our philanthropy. I know other houses are too. It's not something most of us take lightly!

Name one KD that even knows what their philanthropy is. Go ahead. I'm waiting.

My roommate was anti-Greek, anti-social, and just talked in a fake "Michelle Tanner" from Full House voice. So creepy. I found the house I loved though and you will too!

A MASSIVE part of why I pledged my house was b/c I'd been assisted by our philanthropy in the past, even though my house is so-called "bottom tier" and I preffed other houses that were more popular in tent talk. Now I am super involved with it and want to run for its associated council position in my house. I am so happy here. Don't let negative people and their gossip impact how you rank the houses during recruitment.

Picking a house for a Philanthropy would be really hard. They are all great causes. And because of this I would put that pretty low on decision making list

They are all great causes but having a personal connection to one house's philanthropy can definitely make a difference for a PNM if it helped them through a difficult/traumatic time in their childhood.

Houses value different things in PNMs and in turn PNMs value different things in houses. Works both ways.

I like them because they've been showing that same love that the Phi Mus in my home town gave to me when I was younger. The Philanthropic side is a big plus! I want to be in a house where I can volunteer and donate and be proud of my organization (which are all of the houses philanthropies) and I just happen to have a connection with the one I really like!
