rush / pledge

why do all the sororities say "rush XYZ" instead of "pledge XYZ?" like girls are obviously going to rush all house so why not say pledge instead? is it just not pc?

Because that would be misleading. "Pledge XYZ" sounds like you just pick who you want and then pledge there, like it's totally up to you. It's bad enough that so many girls don't understand that the houses do the choosing.

At my old university, we werent allowed to say "rush xy", I think it had to do with values based recruitment and hazing

I know lots of schools where the girls can't say "rush xyz", and it kind of makes sense. you don't only rush one chapter, so you can't "rush" just one. I've heard girls say "I want to rush XYZ" and had to remind them that that's not how it works. granted, I'm from OOS so it's probably easier to understand at alabama
