severe anxiety
by: Chill pillI suffer from anxiety and panic attacks badly. I take medicine that help. I was so excited for rush and now I can't think about about it withput breaking into a sweat. I am considering just not doing it. But whenever I do something like that I always regret it. Don't get me wrong I am social and outgoing but sometimes I cancel plans last minute and I dont want my sistets to think Im a flake.

My sister is also on medication for Anxiety. She went through Recruitment at her school (not UA, but also a huge SEC school) and did really well. She loves her sisters and she is not the only one in her house with anxiety.
Don't listen to people who tell you not to do it. If you want to do it, go for it. My sis said it was one of the most stressful things she'd ever done, but it's just a week. Take your meds, get lots of sleep, stay hydrated, take whatever downtime you have available and good luck!!! \n\n\n\n\n

I also have severe anxiety. IMO you should only regret the things you didn't do, not the things you did. So go through recruitment and see what happens. Everyone cancels plans last minute sometimes and honestly that sort of issue will happen whether it's with your sisters or with non-Greek friends. Social anxiety doesn't change whether you are in a sorority or not, but being in a sorority is so much more rewarding.

Rush is a very stressful and taxing week, but I agree with the person who mentioned trying to find good coping mechanism leading up to rush to help you with that! Your rho chis will be there to support you if you need someone to talk to during the week. Since it sounds like rushing is something you're very interested in you should definitely do it! Being in a sorority gives you an amazing network of people who love and support you from day one and makes being at a big school like Alabama so much easier

Thanks almost everyone!! I know this site is pretty dumb but I just didn't want to actually talk about it to a person. Ive decided I will do it because I really want to. My brother pointed out that at any moment if it became too much I could bolt but that like yall said I really want to do it so I can just do it! Cant wait to meet everyone!!

Please give rush a shot. I also have debilitating anxiety, but being in a sorority has actually helped me. I'm OOS and my sisters help me feel like I actually have some sort of family here. I would be lost without them. And rush is so busy and hectic that I didn't even have anxiety until pref.

Good for you! You won't regret trying, but you probably will regret not trying. I wish you lots of luck1
