bama oos?

by: Idk

How come so many people from the north are drawn to coming to southern schools like Alabama or even Ole Miss? Not hating at all, I'm genuinely wondering what makes them want to come down here being that the north and south can be so different. I even notice a lot of people from out west. Is it just the big school and reputation that appeals y'all? Just curious because I was shocked to find out how many OOS people come to UA!

1. majority of northern/western kids come to bama for the greek life. #1 in the nation, biggest sorority recruitment too.
2. reputation of bama football. also #1 in the nation lol.
3. campus appeal. the university offers a lot to kids on campus (nice dorms, nice sorority/fraternity houses, lots of majors, easy scholarship opportunities).
4. bama's is just straight up the best school in the nation.

Party people come to bama from the north, that's why so many end up in party sororities. Bama is where northerners that are expected to go to college but are really just in it for the good time go to school.

Yep. Generally speaking, northerners who are serious about their education don't come to bama. Bama gets a looooooot of money from the kids who come here from ny/nj etc to party and then fail out. It offsets all the full rides they give out (some obviously to northern kids but they usually aren't the type to go Greek)

Students from the North come here because it's easier to get into than a big Ivy League school, and they want to get away from where they were raised. Plus they like football and want to party! And Alabama is a really well known school nationally because of our football team!

U of AL has made a concentrated effort in the last few years to recruit academically-talented high school seniors from across the country, many from the Midwest. I can speak for prestigious Chicago-area schools, and I know SEVERAL students who could have gotten into any excellent Midwest college who went to AL because of the scholarship $$$.

So don't discount AL academics. While nobody was apparently looking, they have become strong in many academic areas. And once there, many OOS students do enjoy the "Southern perks" like football and Greek Life, but those alone are NOT the only draw for many OOS students.

Everything northern educator says is true. I see more AL collegiate stickers on cars up here than those from any other southern school. Even my nephew wants to attend a southern school, yet sorry it's Auburn (but we have five years to change his mind!).

Don't y'all remember that kid from a few years ago that got accepted into EVERY IVE LEAGUE but chose to chose to come to Bama????!!!!!

UA obviously isn't the most rigorous college in America, but it's definitely not the worst. It all really depends on how you apply yourself, which is why a lot of people also argue how degrees from top universities are basically the same as degrees from community colleges. Tbh there are a lot of people that go to UA that like to party, but keep in mind a lot of the people who go out half the nights of the week are the same people who are getting top grades, making the deans and presidents list, getting respectable degrees, all while maintaining a fun social life, being involved in clubs, participating in greek life, etc.
