how to actually get a top house?

i'm an incoming freshman at cornell and im hype to be there, and i definitely want a top house. how do i make sure to stand out in rush and get a dg/aphi/kkg bid GIVEN the fact im not from somewhere cool or rich like nyc/la?? do people from more "normal" backgrounds get bids from sororities like this?
