northerners rushing "top tier" frats

As a Northerner coming down south and looking to rush in the fall, I've heard a lot about how it's hard to get bids for some frats coming from out of state and not being able to attend summer rush or get your name out there before school starts.... Is is really noticeably more difficult to get a bid from like SAE or SigNu if that's the case?
