Niagara University - NU Overview

  About Greek Life at NU

Niagara University is a small Catholic school tucked just outside Niagara Falls, New York, and the Greek system there reflects the overall size of the campus — it's an intimate setup with a handful of organizations rather than a sprawling Greek Row scene.

On the fraternity side, Tau Kappa Epsilon is the active chapter representing the IFC. For sororities, both Alpha Sigma Alpha and Phi Sigma Sigma operate under the Panhellenic umbrella. So you're looking at a small but present Greek community rather than the kind of multi-chapter system you'd find at a large state school.

Because NU is a smaller institution with a strong Catholic and Division I hockey identity, Greek life isn't the central axis of the social scene the way it might be at a Big Ten university. That said, the organizations that are active tend to be pretty visible on campus given the overall size of the student body. When Greek life exists at a school this size, members often know each other well across chapters, and that tends to shape how recruitment and social events feel — less anonymous, more personal.

Recruitment at a school like this is typically more low-key than what you'd see at a large public university. There's no massive Bid Day spectacle or weeks-long structured rush process with hundreds of potential new members. It's more conversational, and prospective members usually get a real sense of the chapter through smaller events and direct interaction with current members.

Chapter housing in the traditional sense — dedicated Greek houses on or near campus — isn't a defining feature of the NU Greek experience. Philanthropy and community service tend to be meaningful parts of how these chapters operate, which fits with the university's broader mission around service and community engagement.
