LSUS is a smaller commuter-focused university in Shreveport, and its Greek system reflects that — it's an intimate, close-knit community rather than the sprawling Greek Row scene you'd see at a flagship state school. The university sits in northwest Louisiana and draws a lot of students who are working, living off campus, or attending part-time, which shapes how Greek organizations operate here.
The chapters present span two councils. The National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) has a solid presence with historically Black fraternities and sororities including Alpha Phi Alpha, Kappa Alpha Psi, Omega Psi Phi, Alpha Kappa Alpha, and Zeta Phi Beta. On the IFC and independent side, you've got Kappa Sigma, Tau Kappa Epsilon, and Phi Lambda Chi rounding out the fraternity options. It's a mix that covers both NPHC traditions and more general IFC-style organizations.
Don't expect a traditional rush week with tabling on a busy quad and chapters competing for hundreds of new members. At a school this size, recruitment tends to be more personal and relationship-driven. You're more likely to get connected through a friend, a class, or a campus event than through a formal, high-volume intake process. That said, NPHC chapters follow their own intake structure, which is separate from IFC-style open recruitment entirely.
There are no chapter houses to speak of — this isn't a residential Greek Row school. Most chapter activity happens through campus events, community service, and step shows or probate reveals for NPHC organizations, which tend to draw strong campus attention when they happen. Philanthropy and community involvement are central to how these groups stay active and visible on campus.
Greek life here is one part of the social fabric, not the defining centerpiece of it. For students who do go Greek, the smaller scale tends to mean tighter member relationships and more direct involvement in chapter operations from day one.
