rush competitiveness
by: PnmI understand that rush at Indiana is crazy competitive, but how competitive is it to get into a good house? Like do you need connections or if they truly like you and it's the right fit will you end up there?

I would recommend building up your involvement, maintaining the highest gpa you can and figuring out what values/philanthropies are most important to you. It is really who you know in some cases but being your best you doesn't hurt and if you trust the system you might find your new home.

Having been through rush, 3.5 years in a terrific sorority, and now out on the other side in the real world-- let me tell you that the real world is a lot like rush. You might only get 5 minutes with a potential boss who will pull you onto his/her team and fly you around the world doing cool consulting work. You might only get 5 minutes with a potential customer to convince them to buy your product. You might only get 5 minutes to testify before Congress to try to get funding for some issue that is important to you. Trust me, the world will be more fun and interesting for you if you can make a positive first impression with everyone you meet. I think the fact that most of the top leaders in the world (business, government, etc) were members of some sort of fraternal-like organization (fraternity, sorority, eating club, etc) is no coincidence.

Looks and connections matter the most to top houses. As long as you're pretty and take easy classes first semester so you can get a 3.2 or above you're fine
