“indiana would be nothing without greek life”
by: lolI’ve heard this multiple times. Has everyone forgotten that this is a university??? the whole point is to get a degree??

Not to mention @admin you take away the social life of a university, which is a big factor for potential students, they stop looking at your money makers like kelley and they go to michigan, uva wisco instead. There are like over 1000 kids in greek life in kelley, a lot of them are involved. You also kick off the houses that are institutions here and you lose those alumni (money makers). careful before you shoot yourself in the foot.

There are enough competitive schools that students can choose what is important to them. I am in Kelley and in Greek life from OOS. I wanted a school with a highly regarded business program, sports culture and Greek life. I would not have applied if any of those 3 were out of the equation. I am sure I am not alone. The school needs Greek life to attract certain students. It may only be 17%, but that represents a lot of applications.

Campus ks sorta dead without Greek life. Came to Kelley OOS cuz Kelley a top business school and everyone hyped Indiana up to be great socially. Ended up being bored and unfilfilled, dorm was boring and most house parties sucked after welcome week. Luckily, joining Greek life saved that. It provides a good balance between school, extracurriculars, intramurals, and having fun. I would’ve definitely transferred schools if it wasn’t for Greek life. As long as Bloomington Is a town in the middle of nowhere with nothing much to do, Greek life is gonna be around. People who work hard wanna play hard and they’re just gonna go to other schools like Michigan, uva, UIUC, etc.

No one tries to get into Kelley because of the Greek system. The Kelley number above is inflated. IU has 17% Greek. One of the smallest Greek life in the country. Houses are dropped and no one notices. This overinflated idea of Greek Life is what is making it disappear. It is meant to be part of the school but if it drags the school down it will be gone. It’s just economics. They can attract top talent now and scores are high to get DA. They want to replace they party school image so as they become more selective higher caliber students apply. IU doesn’t need Greek Life. Greek Life needs IU. If school isn’t put first like at Mich we will be gone.
