why would i be dropped by so many

by: dropoutqueen

Going into the second round I had 14 houses (some top, some middle, some bottom) but when I received my SH list i only had two - the bottom two from my list that I hated so much from the beginning. What happened

they made some serious cuts and you weren't good enough

Nothing to do with being good enough or not. The houses that dropped you probably felt that you weren’t a fit for their sisterhood, which is okay. Doesn’t mean that you’re good or bad, just means you didn’t fit with them

Wow. "Hated" is a strong word. Do you think those other houses "hated" you? No, they didn't "hate" you so just don't be so judgey either. Rushing is a skill. Some girls are just naturally good at it and get noticed easier than others. If you are even a little quiet or shy, or just don't click exactly right with the girls you talk to, you can fall through the cracks. You have to be VERY comfortable talking and hitting it off with total strangers. There's nothing wrong with you, please don't beat yourself up. And don't beat up the members at those two houses you had left where you were WANTED. There's nothing wrong with them either.

Yeah, agreed. When I first when through rush, I got cut at every house. It’s depressing and it hurts but it gets better. Try to get to know those last two a little bit better. If you don’t like them, don’t join them. But, frankly, I’d have loved to be in your shoes - with two options, instead of being left out in the cold with nothing.

Better question, why does it matter how many dropped you when you only get a bid to 1 in the end?

Seriously, everyone obsesses way too much over how many chapters are inviting them back but you can only get a bid from 1, so weird flex...

What happened is the competition for IU rush is very strong. You have girls from all over with very similar backgrounds as far as looks, popularity, smarts, athletics, etc. They all bring a lot to the table and in the end there are only a limited number of spots.

Round 2 cuts are typically the harshest and there are a lot of girls we have to cut that we really like. Its just someone else was slightly stronger in what we were looking for in a pnm. Almost everyone experiences a harsh cut along the way. Some after round 1 but most after round 2.

None of us know you so to try and figure out why would be impossible. Its the same when you go to get a job that you think your perfect for only to have someone else get it. You never will know why the people deciding went the way they did. Too many factors in how evaluations are done.

Also remember that advisors will tell the chapters ok you have another 100 girls to cut.... so the house can make the decision to say ok drop everyone who has lower than than say 3.3 GPA.

Don't think you are the victim here. There were two chapters that wanted you. By dropping out of recruitment, you were telling the members of those chapters that you were better than them. The cuts go both ways. Just accept your responsibility in the process and know that you had options if you wanted them. Enjoy sitting alone in your room or grow up and consider informal recruitment.

I don't know which chapters really wanted me and which ones only asked me back because they have low numbers and have to ask almost everyone back.

Every chapter makes cuts. No chapter is going to carry someone they don't want.

If they asked you back, they felt that you could fit in their chapter. Every single chapter makes cuts. They did not cut you. They saw you as a potential friend and sister. For you to say that you "hated" them seems super harsh. How do you "hate" someone that you have only talked to for a few minutes??? What did they do to you that brought out that level of venom? It sounds more like you think/thought that you were too good for them. If so, they are better off without you. If you have had a change of heart, I would go back to anyone hosting informal events with a positive attitude, looking through a fresh lens and try not to be such a snob. You may find the best friends of your whole life in a place that would surprise you.

So long as there are PNMs who get dropped completely - and I mean every chapter, not just ones they like and then they elect to drop out - chapters cut. So long as there are GPA minimums, chapters cut. So long as there are girls without perfect recruitments, chapters cut. Even girls who end up in APhi were cut from some chapters. It’s not trickle down economics.

If you are al legacy at another house is that considered and a quick drop because they think you will go there?

Yes, sometimes your legacy status somewhere else can get you dropped from other houses, especially if your legacy is from an IU chapter. It is best to only let your legacy house know of your status for this reason.

I’m sorry but if you say asa doesn’t invite absolutely everyone back you are lying. People hate them because they’re unhoused and girls don’t want to be back in the dorms next year so stop hating on people who don’t want to join them

By: IU

Um, news flash - ASA does cut. They don't invite every single girl back. I know several ASAs and they do cut. As to being unhoused, seems to me they have a pretty good set up and the only ones living in the dorm are those that choose to. Why "hate" a chapter because they don't have a house? That makes you a pretty small and petty person. You live in one year typically and then move to an apartment - what do you think ASAs do? They just do it from the get go and have a whole lot more fun without house rules.
