sk housing rumors
by: blahAs anyone who has been on this site in the last few months knows, there’s a lot of rumors going around about what SKs housing situation is going to be in the near future. First they told girls they were building a house. Then, they told girls they’re welcome to stay on the lease of the Phi Psi house as long as they’d like. Now, they’re trying to get people to believe they’re taking Kappa Sig. TBH I don’t really think it even matters because IF they got the KSig house, it wouldn’t be permanent. But realistically, they’ve lied and lied and lied about their housing situation trying to get PNMs to believe them long enough to be initiated. Really they just care about numbers. I mean, who could blame them? But PNMs have the right to know that they’ve lied in the past and they’re probably lying right now. So beware ladies, because if having a house matters to you, you might not want to take chances.

Either you're some bitter old lady whose boyfriend slept with an SK or you're a clueless GEED. Kappa Sigma and Sigma Kappa came to terms on a lease right after the semester ended. The lease will be long term because Kappa Sig has been kicked off campus by their national three times in the last 30 years. The lease could be 8-10 years because Kappa Sig national doesn't want to deal with IU's Greek witch hunt.
The deal was done so late in the year that there hasn't been time to put a sign up or for the iDS to write about it.

Face it, Sigma Kappa are renters. They move to wherever they can find an empty house. The real question is, why doesn’t their Executive Office build them their own permanent house? Do they not have enough faith this chapter can make it? Do they not want to invest in this chapter? Until their EO invests in them, they will be a transient sorority that stays lower tier.

FIJI held out a loooong time. A very long time to get exactly what they wanted. Plus FIJI is an exemplar of Greek life on this campus, and as a whole it’s members are very strong donors to the university and IU foundation That being said...
There are many variables involved with SK’s current housing situation. The FACTS are :
1) they will be renting Kappa Sigma’s house on the extension beginning Fall 2019. Women who have already signed leases to live out are able to fulfill those obligations leaving more room for live ins in the new locale.
2) a lease is being signed for several years, long enough to allow for several pledge classes to matriculate. Long enough to build a permanent home
3) when SK was recolonized, there was the promise from EO for a new house. SK has been on this campus for 100 years and their alumnae and national officers and I suspect IU Panhellenic are all committed to seeing this chapter thrive. There is land available but if anyone of you have negotiated a land contract with a big ten university, you will understand it moves at a glacial pace. Case in point, FIJI.
It is unfortunate and in bad taste to continue to debase this sorority, and to spread unfounded rumors. I frankly don’t understand the depth of the animus.
