Right about now I'm wishing I had gone to Purdue. I'm not thrilled with my sorority, even though it is considered a good one. The people just aren't very nice. And I hear from my friends who pledged at Purdue that they just love their houses. Oh well.....

If you don't want to be here than transfer. Easy fix.

Grow up. People can and should debate things that concern them. Stop trying to shut her down. These are the very type of people who can make our system better bc they have higher expectations for Greek life than cliquey groups based on their hotness (sororitys) and $/connections (frats).

You're in a 'good sorority' so you're in a house with 150 girls who chose to be friends based on each others looks and you're surprised that people aren't very nice?

Besides that point, being in a sorority is just one part of school. If you're wishing you hadn't come to IU because your Purdue friends look happier in their sororities, then your priorities might be off.

Give it a shot, you'll get closer with your pc sophomore year and people chill out.

OP here. I'm at IU for all the right reasons, and intend to stay, so let's cut back a little on the value judgment that my priorities are off. And who are you to make sweeping statements about 150 women in my house? I'm just saying that I don't feel particularly comfortable at this point in my sorority. I will give it a shot and hope things improve before dropping, but I just wish people were more friendly. The Chicago girls as SO cliqu-ey and the Indianapolis girls just hang out with people from their high school. Will that change? I hope so.

I know what you mean. My sister goes to Purdue. I go here. Their system has tiers - no doubt about it, but it's not as polarizing there as it is here. Even if the different tiers don't have official pairs and functions, they are still invited for open parties and most everyone seems to get along for the most part. I love IU, but as a Greek at IU, this is the one area where I wish we could be more like Purdue.

I come from a family of three daughters and I am the youngest. One of my older sisters goes to Purdue, the other graduated from here last year. We are all in sororities. When I was deciding where to go to school (between IU and Purdue), they sat me down and told me what to expect. They said that IU was more social and less academic and that Purdue was less fun but more welcoming. They said the nature of the majors at Purdue attracts the kind of girls who might not have been the Prom Queens of the world, but that they were focused and had very high standards. I made up my mind to come here because it is stronger in my major. I've made some good friends in my pledge class, but I wish people here were not as insecure or superficial, always feeling the need to impress people. What I really wish is that my major was stronger at Purdue and I could have gone there.

Just curious- did you join your IU sister's sorority? I know women who say if your sister is still an active member you're in, but once they graduate all bets are off. And that the only legacies that matter are daughters of alums with $$$ and sisters if current members.

I actually joined the same sorority as my sister at Purdue. I gave it a good chance, but I just didn't feel at home at my IU sister's chapter here. We also talked about being a legacy and they told me I wouldn't be a shoo-in at either sorority and that I would get in on my own merits. As a result, I took nothing for granted. I never heard the part about $$$, but I can tell you we aren't rolling in it.
