Colorado Mesa University - CMU Overview

  About Greek Life at CMU

Nestled in Grand Junction on Colorado's Western Slope, Colorado Mesa University is a mid-size school with a Greek community that reflects its overall campus size — smaller and more tight-knit than what you'd find at a big state flagship. There are two fraternities and two sororities active here, operating under IFC and Panhellenic councils respectively. The organizations on campus are Kappa Sigma and Theta Xi on the fraternity side, and Alpha Sigma Alpha and Gamma Phi Beta representing Panhellenic.

Because the system is on the smaller side, the chapters tend to know each other well, and there's less of the large-scale Greek Row energy you'd see at a Big Ten or SEC school. CMU has a strong identity around its outdoor culture — hiking, skiing, mountain biking — and that tends to shape the social fabric of the whole campus, Greek members included. Greek life exists here, but it's one piece of the social scene rather than the dominant force organizing student life.

Recruitment at a school this size is usually pretty accessible. You're not walking into massive, highly produced events with hundreds of potential new members. It tends to be a more personal process where you actually get to know the people in a chapter pretty quickly. That said, each organization runs its own recruitment on a schedule that can shift, so it's worth checking in directly with the chapters or the Student Life office for current timelines.

As for housing, CMU's Greek chapters don't have large standalone chapter houses the way some bigger universities do. Members generally live in standard campus or off-campus housing. Philanthropy and community service are a consistent part of how Panhellenic and IFC chapters at schools like this operate, with each organization typically tied to a national philanthropy cause. The activity level across chapters can vary semester to semester, which is pretty standard for a Greek system at a regional university of this size.
