Capital University - CU Overview

  About Greek Life at CU

Capital University is a small Lutheran-affiliated liberal arts school in Bexley, Ohio, just outside Columbus, and its Greek system reflects that intimate campus size. This isn't a Big Ten school with hundreds of members per chapter and a dedicated Greek Row stretching across campus. It's a smaller community where the organizations that are here tend to be pretty well-known by the general student body.

The chapters span two main councils. On the fraternity side, you've got IFC-affiliated chapters including Alpha Sigma Phi, Kappa Sigma, and Phi Kappa Psi. The sororities include Panhellenic organizations like Alpha Sigma Alpha, Delta Phi Epsilon, and Phi Sigma Sigma. Capital also has NPHC representation through Alpha Phi Alpha, Alpha Kappa Alpha, and Delta Sigma Theta, which brings some additional tradition and history to the Greek scene on campus.

Recruitment at a school this size tends to feel more personal than what you'd find at a large state university. IFC and Panhellenic recruitment typically happens in the fall, and because the campus is smaller, you're likely to actually know people in chapters before you ever formally rush. NPHC organizations follow their own intake processes, which are separate from formal recruitment and run on their own timelines set by the national organizations.

Housing works differently here than at bigger schools. Capital's Greek organizations generally don't have large standalone chapter houses in the traditional sense — Greek life integrates into the broader campus rather than clustering on a separate strip of houses. Social events, philanthropy work, and chapter programming happen within that context.

Columbus being right next door gives students plenty of options beyond campus, so Greek life competes with a pretty active surrounding city for social programming. That said, chapters here do engage in philanthropy events and community service consistent with their national organization missions, and NPHC chapters in particular tend to be visible on campus through step shows and public programming.
