Trine University - TU Overview

  About Greek Life at TU

Trine University is a small private engineering-focused school in Angola, Indiana, and its Greek system reflects that intimate campus feel. With a handful of fraternities operating under IFC and two sororities under Panhellenic, the community is smaller in scale but still a recognizable part of student life on campus. Given Trine's total undergraduate enrollment sits well under 5,000, the Greek presence here is proportionally meaningful even if it's not the massive system you'd find at a Big Ten school two hours away.

The fraternity side has solid representation, with chapters including Acacia, Alpha Sigma Phi, Delta Chi, Kappa Sigma, Phi Kappa Theta, Sigma Phi Delta, Sigma Phi Epsilon, and Tau Kappa Epsilon all active on campus. On the sorority side, Alpha Sigma Tau and Theta Phi Alpha are the two options for women. The Panhellenic side is smaller than what you'd see at larger universities, which is pretty common for schools of this size and type.

Recruitment at a school like Trine tends to be more informal and accessible than the highly structured rush processes at big state schools. Because the campus is smaller, you're likely to meet members organically through classes, intramurals, or campus events before formal recruitment even starts. That can actually make the whole process feel less overwhelming.

Trine's engineering and technical focus shapes the culture around Greek life here. A lot of members are in STEM-heavy programs, so chapters tend to blend social programming with the academic grind that comes with those majors. Philanthropy events and community service are a consistent part of how chapters engage with the broader campus and the Angola area. Greek organizations here also tend to play a role in the school's social calendar, particularly around major campus events and homecoming.

Housing varies by chapter, but several fraternities do have houses or dedicated living spaces, which helps anchor their presence on campus. For a smaller private school in a rural Indiana town, having that physical space matters more than it might in an urban setting where off-campus social options are more plentiful.
