University of Arkansas at Monticello - UAM Overview

  About Greek Life at UAM

UAM is a small public university tucked in Monticello, Arkansas — a rural corner of the state about 100 miles southeast of Little Rock. The campus runs a few thousand students, and the Greek system reflects that intimate scale. You've got a handful of fraternities and sororities here, not dozens, so this isn't the kind of place where Greek life dominates every corner of campus life the way it does at a flagship SEC school.

The organizations here span two main traditions. On one side you've got chapters affiliated with the National Pan-Hellenic Council — Alpha Phi Alpha, Kappa Alpha Psi, Omega Psi Phi, Phi Beta Sigma, Delta Sigma Theta, Zeta Phi Beta — which represent the historically Black Greek-letter organization side of things. NPHC orgs at schools like UAM tend to be community-focused, with a heavy emphasis on service, step shows, and public programming that's visible to the whole campus. On the IFC and Panhellenic side, you've got chapters like Sigma Tau Gamma, Tau Kappa Epsilon, Alpha Sigma Alpha, Alpha Sigma Tau, and Sigma Sigma Sigma filling out the roster.

At a school this size, Greek life occupies a specific space — it's present and active, but it's not the only social infrastructure on campus. Chapters tend to be smaller, which means membership can feel more personal. Recruitment is generally lower-key compared to big state schools, without the massive structured rush weeks you'd see at Arkansas or Ole Miss.

Philanthropy events and Greek-sponsored activities do show up throughout the academic year and give chapters visibility on a campus where word travels fast. Chapter housing isn't a defining feature of the Greek experience here the way Greek Row is at larger universities.
