Merrimack College - MC Overview

  About Greek Life at MC

Merrimack College is a mid-size Catholic school in North Andover, Massachusetts, and its Greek system reflects the school's overall scale — smaller and more close-knit than what you'd find at a big state university. The community is made up of a handful of chapters across two fraternities and three sororities, so this isn't a sprawling Greek Row situation. It's a more intimate setup where people actually know each other across chapters.

On the fraternity side, you've got Phi Kappa Theta and Tau Kappa Epsilon representing IFC. Sororities fall under Panhellenic and include Alpha Sigma Tau, Theta Phi Alpha, and Zeta Tau Alpha. There's no NPHC or MGC presence on our site at this time, so the system is primarily IFC and Panhellenic in structure.

Merrimack is a Division II school that made the move to Division I athletics fairly recently, and the campus culture is still shaped heavily by that smaller, more community-oriented feel. Greek life exists here but it isn't the defining center of the social scene the way it might be at larger schools. It's one piece of the social mix rather than the whole picture.

Don't expect massive chapter houses lining a dedicated Greek Row. Merrimack's chapters tend to operate without dedicated residential housing, which is pretty typical for a school of this size in New England. Recruitment tends to be more relaxed and personal compared to big Southern or Midwestern schools — the process is less of a high-stakes production and more of a get-to-know-you situation given how small the chapters are.

Philanthropy and service are a consistent thread across chapters here, which fits with Merrimack's broader identity as an Augustinian Catholic institution that emphasizes community engagement. Chapters participate in fundraising events and service initiatives throughout the year, and that tends to be a real part of chapter identity rather than just a checkbox.

The discussion and review activity on this site is relatively light, which tracks with the size of the system overall — there simply aren't as many members feeding into the conversation compared to bigger schools.
