Pittsburg State University - PSU Overview

  About Greek Life at PSU

Pittsburg State is a mid-size regional university in southeast Kansas, and its Greek community reflects that scale — it's a real presence on campus without dominating the entire social scene the way it might at a Big 12 school two hours north. PSU sits in Pittsburg, a smaller city, which means the campus itself becomes the social center of gravity, and Greek organizations are a meaningful part of that.

The system includes both IFC fraternities and Panhellenic sororities on the Interfraternity and Panhellenic councils, plus a solid NPHC presence with several historically Black fraternities and sororities represented. That includes well-known NPHC organizations like Alpha Phi Alpha, Kappa Alpha Psi, Omega Psi Phi, Alpha Kappa Alpha, Delta Sigma Theta, and others from the Divine Nine. Having that mix gives the overall Greek community more range than you'd find at some comparable-sized schools.

On the IFC and Panhellenic side, chapters like Sigma Chi, Sigma Phi Epsilon, Pi Kappa Alpha, Lambda Chi Alpha, and Phi Sigma Kappa round out the fraternity side, while sororities include Alpha Gamma Delta, Alpha Sigma Alpha, and Sigma Sigma Sigma among others. It's a manageable number of chapters, which tends to mean recruitment is a bit more personal and accessible compared to massive state flagship systems where rush can feel overwhelming.

Housing varies by chapter — some have houses and some don't, so don't assume every organization has a dedicated chapter home. Philanthropy events and campus involvement are pretty standard expectations across chapters, and Greek members tend to be visible in student organizations and campus leadership beyond just their own chapters.

Overall, it's a smaller Greek community, but the organizations that are here are active and have been part of campus life at PSU for a long time.
