Simpson College - SC Overview

  About Greek Life at SC

Simpson College is a small liberal arts school in Indianola, Iowa, and its Greek system reflects that intimate campus setting. With a handful of fraternities and sororities operating under IFC and Panhellenic, the community here is on the smaller side — but it's genuinely woven into campus social life in a way that's pretty common at schools this size.

On the fraternity side, you've got Alpha Tau Omega, Lambda Chi Alpha, and Sigma Alpha Epsilon. The sororities are Delta Delta Delta, Kappa Kappa Gamma, and Pi Beta Phi — all three are well-established national organizations with a presence at schools across the country. At a place like Simpson, where the total undergraduate population is only a few thousand, going Greek means you're joining a tight-knit group where people actually know each other.

Recruitment at a school like this tends to be pretty low-key compared to the massive rush spectacles you'd see at a Big Ten or SEC school. Panhellenic formal recruitment typically happens in the fall, and fraternity recruitment can be a bit more informal and spread throughout the year. Because the campus is small, word gets around fast and you'll probably know people in multiple chapters before you even decide to rush.

Chapter housing is part of the picture at Simpson — fraternities and sororities have houses that serve as social hubs for members and the broader campus community. Philanthropy is a real part of chapter culture here, as it is with most Panhellenic and IFC organizations nationally, and chapters regularly host events tied to their national philanthropy partners.

Simpson doesn't have an NPHC or Multicultural Greek Council presence listed, so the Greek community here is structured around those IFC and Panhellenic chapters. For a small Midwestern liberal arts college, that's pretty typical.
