Millikin University - MU Overview

  About Greek Life at MU

Millikin University is a small private school in Decatur, Illinois, with a total undergraduate enrollment that sits well under 2,000 students — and the Greek system here reflects that intimate campus scale. It's not a massive Greek scene, but it's a consistent presence on campus with both fraternity and sorority chapters that have been around for years.

On the fraternity side, you've got IFC chapters including Alpha Tau Omega, Delta Sigma Phi, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Tau Kappa Epsilon, and the multicultural fraternity Sigma Lambda Beta. Sororities include Panhellenic chapters Alpha Chi Omega, Delta Delta Delta, and Pi Beta Phi, along with NPHC organizations Alpha Kappa Alpha and Delta Sigma Theta. That mix of IFC, Panhellenic, and NPHC representation means there are different kinds of Greek experiences available on a campus that's pretty small overall.

Because Millikin is as small as it is, Greek life tends to be more tightly woven into the social fabric than you might expect from the raw numbers. Chapters here aren't enormous, so recruitment tends to feel more personal than it does at big state schools — you're meeting people one-on-one pretty quickly, and the process isn't as drawn out or high-pressure. Formal recruitment happens each semester, and some chapters also do informal recruitment throughout the year.

Philanthropy events and community service are a real part of how chapters stay active and visible on campus. Chapters here participate in both national philanthropies tied to their organizations and local Decatur community efforts. Chapter housing varies — some organizations have designated spaces on or near campus, but Millikin doesn't have the kind of sprawling Greek Row you'd find at a large state university.

Millikin has a strong identity around its performance and arts programs, and that creative culture coexists with Greek life rather than competing with it. A lot of students involved in theater, music, or the university's well-known entrepreneurship programs also go Greek. The system is one part of a pretty well-connected campus community overall.
