Armstrong State University - ASU Overview

  About Greek Life at ASU

Armstrong State University, located in Savannah, Georgia, is a mid-size public university that merged with Georgia Southern University in 2018 — though the Savannah campus still carries a lot of its own identity and culture. The Greek system there is on the smaller side, with a handful of chapters operating across IFC, Panhellenic, and NPHC councils.

On the IFC side, Kappa Sigma and Pi Kappa Alpha are the two fraternities representing that council. Panhellenic includes Alpha Sigma Tau, Sigma Sigma Sigma, and Phi Mu. The NPHC organizations — Alpha Kappa Alpha, Delta Sigma Theta, and Zeta Phi Beta — round out the Greek presence on campus and tend to operate with their own distinct traditions and intake processes, which are pretty different from the formal recruitment structure you'd see on the IFC and Panhellenic side.

Recruitment for Panhellenic chapters typically follows a structured formal process in the fall, while IFC fraternities usually run a more relaxed, informal recruitment. NPHC chapters don't do open recruitment the same way — membership intake happens on their own timeline and through their national organizations.

Given the overall size of the campus and the number of chapters, this is a more intimate Greek community. It's not the kind of place where Greek life dominates every corner of social life the way it might at a large SEC flagship school. That said, the chapters that are here are active — they do philanthropy events, community service, and campus programming throughout the year.

Housing is generally not a big part of the picture here. Most chapters don't have dedicated Greek houses, so a lot of chapter life happens through campus spaces and off-campus events rather than a traditional Greek Row setup. That's pretty common for schools of this size and type in the Georgia university system.
