Western University in London, Ontario runs a Greek system that's genuinely woven into the social fabric of campus life. It's a large research university with a reputation for having one of the more active party and social cultures among Canadian schools, and fraternities and sororities have been part of that for decades. The system operates primarily under IFC for fraternities and Panhellenic for sororities, and both councils have a real presence on campus.

The fraternity side has solid representation, with chapters like Sigma Chi, Phi Delta Theta, Phi Gamma Delta, Delta Kappa Epsilon, Zeta Psi, Pi Kappa Alpha, Lambda Chi Alpha, and others making up a competitive field. Sororities including Alpha Phi, Kappa Alpha Theta, Pi Beta Phi, Alpha Gamma Delta, and Alpha Omicron Pi round out the Panhellenic side. There's also representation from organizations like Alpha Epsilon Pi and Zeta Beta Tau on the IFC side.

Recruitment happens in the fall, and Panhellenic formal recruitment tends to be the more structured process with scheduled rounds and a defined bid day. Fraternity recruitment is generally more informal and spread out, with individual chapters running their own timelines. Rush isn't quite the same machine you'd see at a big American SEC or ACC school, but it's active enough that most people on campus know when it's happening.

Housing is a mixed situation. Some chapters have houses or chapter spaces, but Western isn't a school with a dedicated Greek Row the way many American universities have. A lot of social activity happens at chapter houses, rented properties, or through events organized off-campus rather than in a centralized Greek housing area.

Philanthropy is a consistent part of how chapters present themselves on campus, and most organizations tie community service and fundraising into their chapter calendars. Greek life at Western sits somewhere between niche and mainstream — it's not something every student participates in, but it's visible enough that you'll encounter it pretty quickly once the school year gets going.
