How many girls do the sororities take?
How competitive is it?

Personally, I did not need letters of rec for recruitment. Depending on how many girls go through recruitment, and how many girls nationals will allow, pledge classes can range from 20 to 30 girls. I wouldn't worry too much about competitiveness, you will end up in the house that you belong in :)
