Marietta College - MC Overview

  About Greek Life at MC

Marietta College is a small liberal arts school in Marietta, Ohio, sitting right along the Ohio River — and with an undergraduate population in the low thousands, the campus has an intimate feel where organizations of any kind tend to carry real weight. The IFC and Panhellenic councils both operate here, overseeing a handful of chapters on each side. There's no NPHC or MGC presence reflected in the current chapter lineup, so the system runs through those two main councils.

On the fraternity side, you've got Alpha Sigma Phi, Alpha Tau Omega, Delta Tau Delta, and Lambda Chi Alpha. Panhellenic includes Alpha Xi Delta, Chi Omega, and Sigma Kappa. It's a smaller Greek community by most measures, but at a school this size, that's kind of expected — and it means individual chapters tend to be pretty visible on campus rather than blending into a crowd.

Rush and recruitment at a place like Marietta are generally more low-key than what you'd see at a big state school. Fraternities typically run informal recruitment alongside a more structured bid process, and Panhellenic formal recruitment follows the standard rounds format. Because the school itself is small, the process tends to feel more personal — you're likely to already know people in chapters before you ever officially rush.

Housing is part of the picture here. Several fraternity chapters have houses on or near campus, which gives those organizations a consistent social presence. Chapter houses tend to be where a lot of the social activity centers, especially on weekends.

Philanthropy is a consistent thread across chapters at schools like this — Greek organizations at smaller colleges often lean into community service as a way to maintain their standing on campus and build relationships with administration. Chapters here participate in various philanthropy events throughout the academic year, which also double as some of the more visible Greek programming for the broader student body.

Overall, Greek life is a real part of the social fabric at Marietta without totally dominating it. With the number of chapters relative to the student body, going Greek is a meaningful choice that connects you to a pretty tight-knit group of people across multiple organizations.
